SHAOLIN JAZZ in Ethiopia, a musical exchange program we have developed through the Sister Cities Initiative (an arts-based program instituted via the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities), connecting the two cities of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Washington, DC (USA); and we are pleased to announce that our program was the first ever to be selected to partner with Addis Ababa.

The program first consisted of travel to Addis Ababa, where, for one week, we met with local Jazz and Hip-Hop artists to learn first-hand about the history of those respective music scenes in Ethiopia; culminating in a SHAOLIN JAZZ L!VE performance (live Jazz and Hip-Hop) in collaboration with local Jazz and Hip-Hop artists.

The second part of the program, took place in Washington, DC, consisted of a panel discussion about Jazz and Hip-Hop culture in the US and Ethiopia, followed by a performance of SHAOLIN JAZZ L!VE, in the historic U Street Corridor, featuring both local and guest Ethiopian musicians.
